How to pair socks with your outfits

Hi shoe lover!

In this post we have pooled -video tutorial included- some tips to successfully match socks with trousers and shoes. A recurring question at our store.

The GOLDEN RULE to avoid mistakes: choose the socks in the same color as the trousers. They should never pair the color of the shoe.

That is, blue trousers, blue socks. That way you won’t fail. It doesn’t matter if the shoe is brown, black, or any other color. But the sock should always pair the trousers.

Here below some other additional basic rules:

  • With BLACK suits: weddings, black tie events, tuxedo, etc.

The sock should always be black. We love the elegant Lisle yarn socks. And to nail the look, these kind of formal black suits go perfectly with an oxford shoe.

If we are wearing jeans, we can opt for special combinations and choose single-color socks in strong tones that contrast with the black of the trousers and shoes or dare with patterned socks. Here the level of contrast will depend on the courage and style of each one.

  • With BLUE or GREY suits:

We go back to the golden rule: blue trousers with blue socks. No matter the color of the shoe.

A step further would be a sock with a blue background and a small print such as polka dots or any other discreet pattern.

And for the most daring, a funnier print.

For grey, keep the same rule as for blue.

  • With CASUAL trousers:

In casual, we are going into a more relaxed and fun area. And natural materials for socks such as cotton.

Chinos: for beige, blue or any other trouser color, we could follow the conservative rule of choosing the sock in the same color. But here it is much less risky to combine with prints or crazy colours.

Jeans: the denim fabric embraces everything, so we can unleash the madness without fear of making mistakes. Striped socks are our favourites.

White/beige summer trousers: always with light socks as well. Although the option that we recommend the most are cotton “invisible socks”. They show the ankle, and they help us take care of our shoes. Sweat is acidic and very aggressive with shoe leather. Using these socks in summer is a more hygienic and comfortable option.
